Drama – Imagination in Action
Drama at Ipswich School is a rigorous academic subject, combining theory and practice.
Pupils study performance techniques, script analysis, and theatre history, applying their learning in workshops, productions, and competitions. Drama develops skills that extend far beyond the stage:

Highlights:
- December Production: An annual musical or play in the Michaelmas term. Recent productions include Nora: A Doll’s House (2024) and Seussical the Musical (2025).
- Year 9 Performance: Curriculum Drama pupils rehearse and perform a class production, most recently The It (2025), staged across the school.
- June Production: Years 7 and 8 present a Summer term production, with recent plays including Wendy and Peter Pan (2025) and The Boy Who Fell Into a Book (2024).
Experiences:
- Sixth Form London Trip: Theatre Studies students visit London annually to see professional productions, most recently Twelfth Night at the Globe and The Lady from the Sea at The Bridge Theatre.
- Year 8 Theatre Trip: A Summer term London theatre visit to mark the end of Lower School drama, with recent shows including Frozen (2024) and My Neighbour Totoro (2025).
- Practitioner Workshops: Regular workshops led by professional theatre companies, including Splendid Productions and Frantic Assembly.
